As founding editor of Rue Morgue, I penned the magazine’s editorials from 1997 to 2005, a task which always seemed to befall on the final hours of the production cycle. So while I wasn’t happy with everything I wrote, there were some gems. Because I also happened to be the publisher of Rue Morgue, I gave myself the freedom to work with as broad a canvas as possible. I had, after all, named the magazine after a detective story by Edgar Poe and wanted to investigate the horror genre as much as celebrate it. So I gave wings to my thoughts and sometimes they veered far and wide – I think sometimes those editorials were the only thing keeping the original mandate of the magazine alive, which was to better understand what I found interesting about running a horror magazine. Anyway here are some I like.
